Gourmet Pizza Burgers Recipe

The Ultimate Fusion of Two Comfort Food Classics

When you can’t decide between pizza or burgers, don’t compromise — make these pizza burgers. With juicy, flavorful meat, rich marinara sauce, and golden melted cheese, all piled onto crisp English muffins, this dish delivers serious satisfaction in every bite.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 chuck for best flavor)
  • ½ lb ground Italian sausage (or your preferred sausage)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 8 oz fresh mushrooms, thickly sliced
  • ½ yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • ½ tsp dried marjoram
  • 3 cups marinara sauce (use your favorite jarred variety — Rao’s recommended)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 6 English muffins, split
  • 2 oz pepperoni, chopped
  • 1½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

1. Prepare the Meat Mixture
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef and sausage, breaking it apart as it browns. Midway through, add the butter, mushrooms, and onion. Let everything brown nicely — don’t stir too much.

2. Add Aromatics
Reduce heat to medium. Stir in garlic and marjoram, cooking for another minute until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.

3. Add Sauce
Pour in the marinara and stir to combine. Let simmer uncovered for 8–10 minutes, until thickened slightly. Season with salt and pepper based on your sauce’s flavor.

4. Toast the Muffins
While the sauce simmers, toast the English muffins under the broiler until golden brown. Watch closely — they can burn fast. Use a foil-lined baking sheet for easy cleanup.

5. Assemble the Burgers
Place muffin halves on a baking sheet. Spoon a generous amount of meat mixture onto each one. Top with chopped pepperoni, then cover with mozzarella.

6. Broil to Finish
Return to the broiler for 2–3 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and lightly browned. Serve immediately.
